GIU Day 5: BE KIND TO SOMEONE

On the last day of GIU, I present to you the "Be Kind to Someone" Challenge. Johnny Karate's biggest lesson is to use your powers for positive change. If you are anything like me, you have a hundred cards just waiting for the perfect occasion to be used.  Today, my friends, is just that occasion!  You don't need to wait for a birthday or baby shower to use those fantastic cards in your pile.  Brighten someone's day just because.

I am a middle school teacher, so I get to interact with probably a hundred students a day as well as my colleagues.  I see teachers who are worn down, and students who need a pick me up all the time, but today I am going to do something about it.  I am bringing this card to school for a teacher in need of a good laugh.  I don't know who will receive it yet, but I'll know it when I see it.
We teachers love to know everything about what is happening in the school and with our students.  #dontjudgeus #wespillthetea

Here are some pictures of how I made this little snark card, and a few little things I did to make it special.

I stamped this cutie on the back!  Love!

What card doesn't benefit from a little envelope art?

For the student I want to encourage I went simple.  I want my students to see me as someone in whom they can confide.  These little notes can change a kid's day or even week! If you aren't a teacher, maybe you have a kid of your own you can give a little paper love to.  Think of your siblings or a friend you haven't spoken to in a while as well.  Cards open up lines of communication, let people know that they are cared for and loved, and can brighten up even the gloomiest day.  Who wouldn't love to get a sweet little card like this in the mail?
Make sure to comment below and let me know how you plan on being kind to someone today, and you may win 25 beautiful Unity stamps yourself. Use your art for something positive!

  1. I love the idea of a just because card. We all know someone who could use one. Of course, the snarky one is my favorite.

  6. Shannon, this is such great inspiration. I make cards a lot, but usually they're occasion cards. I'm going to start using my Unity stamps for pick me up, just because, and thinking of you cards. Their stamps are perfect for those non-occasions. Great cards, btw!

  7. I love these, love how you colored the poppies. I taught for 30 years and you are so right, some days someone be it teacher or student needs a little pick me up. Whoever gets these you will have made their day and will be so happy through the weekend.

  15. Love these! It takes almost no time at all to be kind but the outcomes of kindness can make a persons day/month and more. I worked in special education for 31 years and although it could be challenging it was always rewarding! Thank you for sharing!

  16. Love the cards and how you put them together. I am guilty of making cards, but only sending them for occasions instead of "just because", so you have inspired me to try and do that more.

  19. By the way ~ I love your hummingbirds on the sidebars too. That's my logo for my photography work, they are pretty special too me as they were my Mom's favorite. For my Kindness card(s) during my resent move I found 6 cards I had made with images of 3 local churches to sell. Today they are going in the mail to the appropriate Pastors and their Secretaries for all the hard work they do and for spreading the word of God. I've enjoyed your week of GIU.

  25. Love that fun card! Everyone can use a good laugh every day. And your note cards are darling; love that flower.
I would like to think that when I pass, one of the words people would use to describe me would be "kind". I truly try to be kind to everyone, every day. It can go a long way to just one person who really needs it! You never know. Thanks for a lovely week of inspiration.

  32. Great cards! I have so enjoyed your GIU week! I am a former teacher turned nurse and my bestie is a teacher, so can so relate to your purpose here and appreciate your sharing these! I’ve always said there is a special place in heaven for jr high teachers, bc even the good kids are often jerks in jr high! So bless you enormously for still having the energy to share all of this with us. Now I see more clearly why our level of snark is so close! Great week Shannon! I’ve been making my bestie some cards to share with her teacher friends for just these types of occasions. May have to add that top snark in the stack!

  34. I like your just because cards.. The first one is my fave, tho... 😃. I showed my kindness today by giving one of my inner circle girlfriends some great, but funny as always, advice on how to deal with her Snoopy Mom. She has been stressing out because her Mom's coming to visit and she hasn't finished unpacking yet. (They just moved 3 weeks ago.). She gets my humor and it helps reduce her stress.

  39. I love the vintage lady. Your coloring is amazing too. Make sure you let us know who the cards were received. I used to work in the public school system and know all too well how worn out teachers are and how hard middle school is for kids.
